Cultivating a NEW Relationship with Imposter Syndrome

Cultivating a NEW Relationship with Imposter Syndrome

In a nutshell, imposter syndrome involves the inability to believe in one’s success and or not believing that it was your own skills and abilities that got you to this point.

Let’s cultivate a new relationship with imposter syndrome through some cognitive reframing work. Think about how you are currently feeling. What is it that you are struggling with that is causing you to doubt yourself and your capabilities?

Now, think back to a time when this has happened before (I guarantee you it has). You see imposter syndrome is pretty persistent and it usually shows its face when you are in a space in your life where you are about to level up to the next big thing and you experience this moment of a hard pause. That’s the space where all the questioning of yourself, efforts and true capabilities to perform come into question.

But let’s revisit the time when you felt like this before. How did you move from that space to this space you are currently in? Surely it was because of progress, effort, abilities and skills that you possessed to be able to continue forward in your various pursuits.

When you find yourself in a space of a hard pause due to imposter syndrome capitalize off of that moment by remembering all of your receipts. The receipts are proof of all the things you have accomplished thus far just to get to this point! Imposter syndrome is a fleeting and temporary experience that is rooted in feelings and not facts! You just have to remember not to stay in that space and allow it to turn into a true belief.

It is your own work ethic, knowledge and talents that bought you this far and will continue to take you to increased heights as long as you 1. Don’t get in your own way, 2. Continue to show up for yourself and 3. Believe that you don’t need a seat at anyone’s table because you are building your own manor!
